PRESS RELEASE
November 8, 2016

On Friday, November 4, 2016, the Metropolitan Pima Alliance (MPA) held its 12th annual Common Ground Awards ceremony presented by Lloyd Construction.  Honoring community leaders, real estate projects and programs that overcame great obstacles through collaboration, this ceremony has recognized over 245 exemplary projects in Pima County. The mission of MPA is to bring the public and private sector together to develop reasonable land use policies and procedures for the benefit of the entire community.

Common Ground Awards

With nearly 450 attendees, the event honored twenty-one projects including the Common Ground Award of Distinction winner, Caterpillar. The arrival of Caterpillar to Tucson is a tremendous example of what can be achieved, when both the private and public sectors work together towards a common goal. While there are many projects that merit recognition, the Common Ground Awards focus on the atypical collaboration that leads to a project's success.

Congresswoman Martha McSally and Tim Swindle

During the ceremony Congresswoman Martha McSally honored Tim Swindle from the University of Arizona Department of Planetary Sciences and Lunar and Planetary Laboratory with a United States flag that flew over the Osiris Rex launch. Congresswoman McSally remarked on the exceptional collaboration between NASA, the University of Arizona and Lockheed Martin to create the stellar project.

Both Pima County and the City of Tucson were recognized as partners of many of the award winning projects.
