Major Projects
The Village at the UA Tech Park
The Village will be developed at the west end of the UA Tech Park on a 175-acre site near Kolb Road and Science Park Drive. The new development will be integrated physically and functionally into the larger Tech Park and will address urban design, scale and connectivity factors such as walking, biking and driving to related community activities, including the adjacent Vail Academy and High School, as well as future development planned areas of the Tech Park. Bourn Companies, LLC has been selected to lead the development of The Village at the UA Tech Park at Rita Road. The Village is a mixed-use development that will include retail, commercial, residential, and hotel. The Village will add a new quality-of-life dimension to the UA Tech Park at Rita Road.
Solar Zone Phase Two
Phase Two of the Solar Zone includes research and development focused on energy storage, grid optimization, and distributed solar systems. Phase Two will allow the demonstration of products and their cost-effectiveness in the market. The University of Arizona and Tech Parks Arizona is also exploring the deployment of solar energy in mining, agriculture, and defense and security systems. As part of Phase Two, the UA Tech Park is opening an additional 28.5 acres of land for testing and demonstration projects. Parcels will range from 5-6 acres and can support up to 1 megawatt of power generation. Phase Two also includes plans for a solar education and visitor center. The center will allow visitors to get up close to functional solar systems and learn about solar technology and its application.
Science Park Drive
Science Park Drive is 1.4 miles of roadway that runs from Kolb Road to Rita Road just south of the UA Tech Park. The project’s goal is to improve Science Park Drive to a four-lane divided parkway with a multi-use pathway. This project also provides public access to the proposed Southeast YMCA that will be located on the northwest corner of Rita Road and Science Park Drive. As the UA Tech Park employment and occupancy grows, improved access to the park will address congestion and handle increasing amounts of traffic while maintaining development guidelines designed to attract new employers and facilities. This project addresses those issues and improves accessibility, not only for vehicles but also connects the multi-use pathway to The Loop to encourage non-vehicular travel. This parkway also provides an improved route to the southeast from Kolb Road to improve traffic circulation in the area in general.
