This morning hundreds gathered for the annual Martin Luther King Jr walk and street sign renaming ceremony.

The idea was first brought to the UA Tech Park in 2014 by the Tucson NAACP Branch, which in turn spawned the Heritage Path Project.

According to the President of Tucson's NAACP Doris Snowden, the sign renaming is a step in the right direction but there's still a long way to go nationally to further realize Martin Luther King Jr's dream.

"But as you know across the country, the number of young people that have been killed, it's a sad thing that a person like Martin Luther King worked for peace for all and you see all the violence across our nation. Yes we have come a long way, but we still have a long way to go with the fight of freedom and justice."

The sign is replacing Nobel Way, which runs South of 36th Street between Park Avenue and Kino Parkway.
