Sean Ruckle, a Vail Academy and High School senior, works on his team’s robot at the University of Arizona Science and Technology Park. His 30-member team, the BoxerBots, is from the Vail School District and plans to compete against other teams in the FIRST Robotics Competition, an international contest that will pit 2,700 robot-building teams from 92 cities around the globe. The teams’ upcoming competition, called “Aerial Assist,” involves getting a robot to put a large ball through different holes in a goal for points. The first competition this year is Feb. 28 in San Bernardino, Calif.
