Several high school students in Vail are preparing to 'Race the Sun' this weekend with a solar-powered go-kart they built themselves.
Friday morning those same students gave a sneak peek at their solar go-kart.
This will be the third year Tech Parks of Arizona has put on the event, according to Associate VP Bruce Wright.
The official title of the race is 'Racing the Sun' and it is more than just a fun project for the students, it is a STEM project as well. This project challenged the students to use basic engineering and science concepts to build, design and test these solar go-karts.
The official race is happening on Saturday, April 26 at the Musselman Honda Circuit Track, just west of the Pima County Fairgrounds, starting at 10 a.m. As an added bonus to all the go-kart fans the event is free.
The Cienega High School students will be competing against the following high school teams:
Andrada Polytechnic High School
Canyon Del Oro High School
Desert Vista High School
Dysart High School
Ironwood High School
McClintock High School
Monument Valley High School
