TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) – A startup that’s building a worldwide network of satellite ground stations is moving out of the University of Arizona’s startup incubator and into a larger space at the UA Tech Park.
Paramium Technologies completed its time at the University of Arizona Center for Innovation and is now setting up operations at the tech park, according to officials. The company creates high-precision metal parts using patented manufacturing technology that came from UA research.
Dr. Justin Hyatt, a University of Arizona researcher, started the business in 2019 after licensing the manufacturing patents through Tech Launch Arizona. The startup uses its production platform to make components like its Magnum antenna reflectors.
Last year, Paramium launched a Ground Station as a Service offering that uses the company’s manufacturing abilities to construct satellite ground infrastructure, officials said. The service aims to address increasing demand for satellite data downlink capacity.
“The space industry urgently needs more ground infrastructure to keep pace with the explosion of data being generated in orbit,” Hyatt said.
The founder and CEO of Paramium Technologies said the company wants to make ground station connectivity work like cloud computing by pairing advanced manufacturing with a network of Earth stations that can be deployed quickly.
The startup worked with UACI to develop its technology and business approach while getting ready to enter the market. The incubator provided mentorship, facilities and entrepreneurial programs during that process.
Because UACI and the UA Tech Park both operate under Tech Parks Arizona, companies can transition from early-stage development to growth without leaving the support system. The model supports businesses from research through expansion and job creation.
“The journey for Paramium Technologies from startup to scaling company showcases the power of Southern Arizona’s innovation ecosystem,” Carol Stewart, CEO of Tech Parks Arizona and president of the university’s center for innovation, said.
Stewart said the organization works to help companies grow beyond their launch phase. She stated Paramium shows how local innovation can drive economic growth and jobs in Arizona.
