The Final Beam of The Refinery Placed, Igniting Innovation to Come

The first new building at the UA Tech Park at The Bridges is reaching a milestone in the construction process. The Refinery’s final steel beam is set to be raised on February 2. This soon-to-be four-story, 120,000 square-foot office building is a collaboration between Tech Parks Arizona and the Boyer Company. The team has developed a purpose-built environment where researchers and students can work collaboratively with businesses. The most unique value proposition is the ability to deeply connect to the University of Arizona. Opening this fall 2021, The Refinery at the UA Tech Park at The Bridges will inspire innovation and fosters technological advancements serving as an innovation and commercialization hub for university and industry interaction.

 

UACI Grows Exponentially Serving 40+ Startups

The number of startups enrolled in the University of Arizona Center for Innovation program has hit an all-time high with a record number of 40+ ventures. This milestone was reached through strategic measures to grow the innovation capacity of UACI. This large influx of startup companies can easily connect with the incubator due to its larger footprint both regionally and internationally as well as the refined and comprehensive 27-point roadmap that strategically guides entrepreneurs to success. 

 

Tucson Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Board

Lindsay Welch, Vice President of Corporate Relations, has been appointed to the Tucson Hispanic Chamber of Commerce board. The Tucson Hispanic Chamber is the largest Latino business organization in the State of Arizona and one of the top ten Hispanic Chambers in the nation. She will join a distinguished board of directors that work together to positively impact our community.  

 

Tech Park Arizona's Steward Observatory Researcher Maps the Skies with NASA

Steward Observatory postdoctoral researcher, Carlos Vargas has been selected by NASA to build a space telescope that will map vast regions of star-forming gas that have eluded observation for decades. This is a huge opportunity for Steward Observatory which utilizes space at the UA Tech Park for testing and storage for a variety of their telescopes.  

 

Pima County Workforce Investment Board

Tech Parks Arizona's Director of Community and Government Relations Peter Loya has been appointed to the Pima County Workforce Investment Board (WIB), serving in the business category representing the emerging technologies and real estate industries. Loya creates the best workplace environment for employees who work at the UA Tech Park and brings that same spirit of excellence to WIB and the community.  

 

IBM Tops U.S. Patent List for 28th Consecutive Year

IBM scientists and researchers received 9,130 U.S. patents in 2020, the most of any company, marking 28 consecutive years of IBM patent leadership. Tucson local inventors contributed to nearly 400 patents of IBM's 9,130 U.S. patents. Their success is a result of the exceptional collaborative skills the company has adopted. Beth Peterson, Senior Technical Staff Member at IBM, shared how virtual collaboration has been part of the foundation of IBM for years. This has helped the company navigate the current workplace. IBM made sure remote workers were provided with education focused on collaborating virtually to make interacting the most efficient.  

 

Café Zona Open

Visit your friends at Café Zona, Chef Charles and Barista Lee anytime Monday through Friday from 6:30 AM to 1:30 PM. The café is located in Building 9040 and serves a variety of breakfast and lunch options as well as Starbucks coffee. Eurest has implemented COVID-19 protocols for your safety which include social distance signage, hand sanitizer stations, a one-way traffic layout, and an additional glass shield at the coffee bar. Eurest employees and customers are required to wear masks at all times.
