Arizona Public Media (AZPM) broke ground in January 2024 on a state-of-the-art facility that represents more than just a new home—it’s the start of a new era. Now under construction, this cutting-edge space is thoughtfully designed to welcome the community into an inspiring environment where creativity, progress, and engagement thrive. More than bricks and mortar, the new facility will open AZPM’s doors wider than ever before, inviting the public to fully experience the power of community voices in fresh, dynamic ways.

As a nonprofit service of the University of Arizona, AZPM has served the public interest for over six decades, delivering high-quality, editorially independent content that informs, educates, and inspires. Now, as the organization reaffirms its commitment to the community with the construction of a transformative new media hub this incredible new space will serve as a vibrant gathering place for storytelling, innovation, and connection. Purpose-built to meet current and future technical and broadcast needs, the new home allows for program expansion, fosters new partnerships, and offers content creators greater mobility, flexibility, and efficiency—empowering collaboration and maximizing productivity.

Building the Future
Of Public Media
This state-of-the-art 61,500 square-foot facility aims to better serve Southern Arizona residents, support educational initiatives, improve visibility and community access, and provide a sense of place for AZPM in the community.
Advanced Broadcast and Production Capabilities
The facility is equipped to meet current and future technical and broadcast requirements, including transitioning television operations to 4K High Dynamic Range production and preparing for the new television broadcast standard, NextGen TV.
Community-Centric Spaces
- A welcoming lobby and reception area serve as an inviting entry point and a hub for learning, conversation, and social gatherings.
The Community Studio features state-of-the-art audio/visual and connectivity technology and is available for rental, facilitating public debates, presentations, live performances, tours, and community events.
Educational and Collaborative Environments
- Dedicated spaces for radio production and podcast studios provide top-quality facilities for media creation, supporting the education and training of University of Arizona students.
The second floor is designed for maximum collaboration, with shared workspaces offering greater mobility, flexibility, and efficiency for AZPM staff.
Performance and Event Facilities
Studio A, the main studio on the first floor, includes retractable seating, permanent balcony seating, and 5,000 square feet of space for large performance groups.
The third floor houses a rooftop deck and digital conference center with views of the Catalina Mountains, available for donor, social, or fundraising events, as well as rental to community groups.
Outdoor and Environmental Features
A flexible outdoor plaza and a series of desert-themed donor gardens provide spaces for community engagement and highlight the beauty of local flora and fauna.
