Construction of the new Arizona Public Media’s (AZPM) headquarters – Paul & Alice Baker Center for Public Media – is in full swing. An incredible new space will open AZPM’s doors to the public so the community can fully experience everything AZPM has to offer. The new home will be a gathering space for the whole community, while allowing for program expansion, innovation, and new partnerships.
The 61,500-square-foot building is designed specifically to meet current and future technical and broadcast requirements, including the replacement of much of AZPM's aging radio and television broadcast production infrastructure as it transitions television operations to 4K High Dynamic Range production and in preparation for the conversion to a new television broadcast standard.
The first floor of the new AZPM building will contain Studio A, the main studio, which will include retractable seating, permanent balcony seating, as well as 5,000 square feet of space for large performance groups.
The Community Studio will feature state-of-the-art audio/visual and connectivity technology and will be available for rental. Visitors will be welcomed into a vibrant lobby and reception area, designed to serve as an inviting entry point and a hub for learning, conversation, and social gatherings. The first floor will also include dedicated spaces for radio production and podcast studios, providing top-quality facilities for media creation.
Most of AZPM’s staff will work on the second floor and it is designed for maximum collaboration. Shared workspaces will offer content creator greater mobility, flexibility and efficiency for optimal productivity.
The third floor will have a rooftop deck and digital conference center with views of the Catalina Mountains. The space will be used for events and can be rented to community groups. The third floor will include a cost-saving shell space ready for future expansion. Construction is expected to be completed in September 2025 with four to six months needed to install broadcasting equipment. The new facility will move AZPM to the future of TV, radio and Internet protocol and will allow AZPM to offer public forums, lectures, political debates, films and other student events.
