2016 National Academy of Inventors Fellow 

In recognition of his prolific work as an impactful innovator and educator, optical sciences professor Nasser Peyghambarian, Ph.D. has been elected as a 2017 Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors.  Dr. Peyghambarian has founded two companies - TIPD, LLC and NP Photonics, Inc. NP Photonics was the first University of Arizona company that located at the UA Tech Park and is still in operation at the Tech Park today.

Tucson Mexico Business Partnerships 

A delegation from Tech Parks Arizona recently traveled to Hermosillo, Mexico for the Arizona Mexico Commission and Comision Sonora- Arizona Annual Meeting. The meetings theme, Megaregion, a partnership that generates results, presented how companies can tap into a binational supply chain, top-ranked higher education systems and skilled workforce, modern infrastructure and a low tax burden. Additionally, the strategic geographic location of the Arizona-Sonora megaregion provides access to major international growth markets. Tech Parks Arizona took the opportunity to meet with potential businesses and partner organziations.

New Company at the UA Tech Park

Ascensus, the nations largest independent retirement and college savings services provider, announced its plans to open a new regional headquarters and office location at the Tech Park at Rita Road. After a national search, Tucson AZ was selected due to its strong labor force as well as its attractive facilities. Ascensus will employ 170 associates at full occupancy.

Generation Startup Movie

Tech Parks Arizona and the Arizona Center for Innovation are presenting a free screening of the movie Generation Startup on January 18 at the Loft Cinema. Generation Startup takes us to the front lines of entrepreneurship in America, capturing the struggles and triumphs of six young entrepreneurs, straight out of college ready to put their dreams to the ultimate test. Following the movie, we will discuss the Tucson Entrepreneurial Scene with a special panel of local entrepreneurs and business experts.

Global Advantage

The British Consul General in Los Angeles and the United Kingdoms Department for International Trade partnered with Tech Parks Arizona to bring a business luncheon to the community. During the luncheon there was a lively discussion about the United Kingdoms evolving position in the world in the wake of the EU referendum and how it may affect Tucson businesses. The Global Advantage team shared their thoughts and will continue to foster the economic benefits shared between the two regions.

Ray Carroll

Tech Parks recently honored Supervisor Ray Carroll for his twenty years of public service to Pima County. Ray has been a steadfast supporter of the Tech Parks. An intimate reception was held in the Arizona Center for Innovation at the UA Tech Park to thank Ray for his public service.

Habitat for Humanity

The Tech Parks Arizona team and Signal Energy participated in the first annual UA Tech Park Habitat for Humanity build on December 14.  Citi also participated on December 15. This event was organized by the Tech Cats, the UA Tech Park employee group. Habitat for Humanity Tucson brings people together to build homes, communities and hope.

From there, the diverse team of 22 manages all aspects of the operations of the UA Tech Park at Rita Road, the UA Tech Park at The Bridges, and the Arizona Center for Innovation. We are also closely connected to the community and execute a number of educational outreach initiatives as well as economic development initiatives.
