Tech Parks Arizona hosted Mr. Gili Ovadia, Consul and Head of the Israeli Economic and Trade Mission to the West Coast, on August 25. Mr. Ovadia had several meetings with industry, city, county and university representatives learning about the rich technology ecosystem of Southern Arizona and exploring joint initiatives around key technology sectors. He also gave a presentation on Israel and its economy including highlights and opportunities for Southern Arizona companies. Each presentation was followed by an engaging discussion surrounding collaboration opportunities. The visit was organized by Tech Parks Arizona through the Global Advantage program.

Tech Launch Arizona Breaks Records for UA in Third Full Year of Operations
The University of Arizonas efforts to bring faculty inventions to the marketplace bore more fruit in fiscal year 2016, as the University posted strong growth in inventions, patents and licensing. Tech Launch Arizona, the UAs tech-commercialization arm that includes Tech Parks Arizona, reported improvement across almost all measures, including a nearly 40 percent increase in patents filed and double-digit increases in disclosures and licensing.

Real Estate Brokers Visit UA Tech Park
On August 16, we held a real estate broker breakfast to update the brokerage community about the recent activities, upcoming development, as well as the current list of available spaces and Park amenities. Representatives from CBRE, PICOR, Tucson Realty and Trust, and Commercial Real Estate Group of Tucson among many others were in attendance.

Synactix MedStartR Campaign
Synactix, a University of Arizona startup, is dedicated to creating safer, more effective treatment options for patients. They just launched a donation-based crowdfunding campaign to further their work on treating Metastatic Medullary Thyroid Carcinoma. Synactixs goal for treating this rare cancer is to provide patients with a safer, more effective cancer treatment to extend overall survival and improve quality of life.

Dr. Richard Powell has joined Tech Parks Arizona and is serving as Senior Fellow. In this role, he will assist in evaluating new technology initiatives especially in the field of advanced energy. Dr. Powell brings a wealth of expertise and experience to the job.

Kelly Potter Recognized for Mentoring Solar Go-Kart Teams
UA Engineering professor Kelly Potter awarded for supporting STEM education by coaching high school students in the solar-powered go-kart competition, Racing the Sun. Industry and university mentors serve as advisers on topics such as electronics, automotive design and solar panels. Potter has been a helping with the program since it first started in 2011.

Supporting the Olympics
As a proud sponsor of the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Citi highlighted its mission of enabling progress and achievement during a Team Citi Olympic Flag raising ceremony at the site earlier this month. The ceremony demonstrated Citis support of the world-class athletes representing the United States in the 2016 Olympics, as well as the companys continued support of the local Special Olympics.

Park Leadership
Fred Boice is the chairman of the Campus Research Corporation Board, the governing group that oversees Tech Parks Arizona and its units. He is a long-standing Tucson resident and has been active in the Arizonas business and education community for more than 45 years. Boice served as a key player in shaping and promoting higher education statewide when he served as the president of the Arizona Board of Regents. He is a true public servant and has served in many capacities through advocacy and board leadership.
