Tech Parks Arizona has reimaged our communities of innovation, and we are laser-focused on creating purpose-built environments. The team has developed a purpose-built environment where researchers and students can work collaboratively with businesses. The recent TREND report highlighted the UA Tech Park and how our support extends beyond brick and mortar boundaries to provide customized business development support. 

 

Constructing the Refinery

Construction at the UA Tech Park at The Bridges is well underway for Tucson’s newest innovation hub. The Refinery, a four-story, 120,000 square-foot building, is taking shape. It is being developed by the Boyer Company and a strong foundation established using quality-minded local contractor CORE Construction and Swaim Associates Architects.  

 

Soft-Landing Designation

It's official! Tucson, Arizona has earned its Soft Landing designation from the International Business Innovation Association (InBIA) via the University of Arizona Center for Innovation. Entrance into this top-notch global network of Soft Landing-designated centers was approved because of UACI's long-established reputation and a clear demonstration of the capabilities necessary to provide resources and programming to international companies seeking new market entry into the United States.

 

Economic Excellence

Tech Parks Arizona won three (3) Excellence in Economic Development Awards from International Economic Development Council (IEDC) which recognizes the world's best economic development programs and partnerships, marketing materials and the year's most influential leaders. We received a silver award for the Tech Parks Arizona 25yr Special Section in BizTucson, a bronze award for Tech Parks Arizona 25yr Future Focused Video, and a bronze award for the Tamales and Tech Parks campaign.

 

Tech Parks Arizona Update

Tech Park Arizona's Associate Vice President, Carol Stewart, provided the University of Arizona with an update on Tech Parks Arizona for Lo Que Pasa. Stewart outlined how the UA Tech Park has been able to weather the COVID-19 storm while moving forward with business development and expansion efforts while using precautionary methods.  

 

Tri-National Summit - Disruptive Technologies Commercialization

The Entrepreneurship Triangle, composed of innovative partners from Sherbrooke, Canada; Rennes, France; and Arizona, United States, is working with the Surprise, Arizona Economic Development team to host the 2020 Virtual Summit, starting on November 2, which will showcase trends and how to accelerate your process for disruptive technologies commercialization. Scholarships are available for students and innovators.

 

Arizona Public Media Highlights Power Connector

Arizona Illustrated, a series by Arizona Public Media, recently featured UACI and Tech Parks Arizona. The video highlights how the U.S. Department of Energy appointed UACI to be one of just six nationwide “Power Connectors” for the American-Made Solar Prize Challenge. This national competition was designed to energize the U.S. solar manufacturing industry. This news piece showcases our region and how Tucson is attracting innovators and establishing us as a worldwide economic hub for the development of solar technology.

 

TechStartup Success, Strong Entrepreneurial Yields Record New Ventures

BizTucson highlighted Tucson's growing entrepreneurial ecosystem in their recent issue. UACI and Tech Parks Arizona, alongside other collaborators, were interviewed about the progress made within their respective organizations. The key players in the Tucson region are building a strong entrepreneurial ecosystem and this startup support is resulting in success. Tucson is growing in appeal and is becoming a distinguished place to start new ventures.

 

Honoring Invention, Partnership and Impact

Tech Launch Arizona (TLA) honored contributors to the University of Arizona and the Tucson innovation ecosystem through its annual I-Squared Awards celebration. Carol Stewart received the Campus Collaboration Award. After less than two years as Associate Vice-President of Tech Parks Arizona, Stewart has had an immense impact on the ecosystem and commercialization. We salute all the I-squared honorees and TLA for their dedication and innovative work.  

 

New Board Member Garth Perry

Garth Perry, University of Arizona Vice President and Chief Budget Officer, has been appointed to the board of directors for Tech Parks Arizona. The well-accomplished finance expert brings his experience from both the University of Arizona and the financial world directly to this community of innovation. As a member of the board of directors, Perry will support Tech Parks’ leaders in creating long-term sustainability and meaningful impact in the community.

 

Startup of the Year Award Winner - Reglagene

We're proud to celebrate the Tech Parks Arizona Startup of the Year Copper Cactus Award winner. Congratulations to Reglagene, an innovative company that developed a drug that aims to shorten the lives of cancer cells. Reglagene's technology was invented at the University of Arizona and licensed through Tech Launch Arizona. The company founders are growing their business at our startup incubator, the University of Arizona Center for Innovation. 

 

Award Winning Public Relations Work

Tech Parks Arizona excelled in the 2020 Public Relations Society of America Southern Arizona chapter Impact Awards. Tech Parks Arizona received the following; General Marketing Communications Award, Written Publication Award. The Caliber Group and Tech Parks also received awards for their collaborative high-quality branding and Creative Collateral material and campaigns.
