Jonathan SprinkleProfessor Jonathan Sprinkle, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and his students have converted a Ford Escape Hybrid into an autonomous vehicle – a car that drives itself. The team is testing the vehicle on the Solar Road at the UA Tech Park. Their goal: To develop technology that will mature into autonomous or semiautonomous features for commercial applications. |

Samantha WhitmanSamantha Whitman, Ph.D., is a graduate of the University of Arizona. She and co-founders Katherine Bliss, Ph.D., and Alexandria Lau, Ph.D., launched DemeterRx Pharmaceuticals, using technology that was first described at the University of Arizona. DemeterRx Pharmaceuticals is using plant-based compounds that assist with tumors being treated by conventional chemotherapy. The company hopes to help oncologists better understand a patient’s tumor in order to treat it more effectively. The company is located at the Arizona Center for Innovation. |
Roger AngelRoger Angel, Ph.D., is a leading UA astronomer and optical scientist. He is responsible for the technology used in creating the large mirrors for the Large Binocular Telescope on Mount Graham. He is also is making mirrors for the Magellan Telescope and the Large Synoptic Survey Telescope. Dr. Angel is also the founder and Chief Technology Officer for REhnu, Inc., a solar company based at the Solar Zone@UA Tech Park. REhnu is testing an innovative solar technology that uses a smaller and more environmentally friendly footprint to generate solar energy. Power generated will be fed into the electrical grid for use by Tucson Electric Power. |
