Innovation Takes Flight at UACI’s

20th Anniversary Celebration

The University of Arizona Center for Innovation marked 20 years of innovation taking flight with a community celebration at UACI's headquarters in the UA Tech Park. UACI has helped pave the way for innovators to move products and services from the lab to the marketplace and has built the highest concentration of startups in any incubator program in the state through decades of earned credibility. Over the past 20 years, the milestones that UACI startups have achieved have led to numerous jobs, tax revenue, and increased economic prosperity for the region. In 2021 alone, with 51 startups in the program, UACI’s work resulted in $35.3 million in economic impact to Southern Arizona, plus an additional $2 million in tax revenue. As UACI enters a third decade, its legacy as a catalyst for innovation will amplify in the coming years propelling the next generation of entrepreneurs to make real world impact. Based on its current trajectory, it is forecasted that UACI will create an estimated 18,875 jobs, generate over $600 million in wages, produce $1.5 billion in economic activity and create nearly $85 million in state and local tax revenues over the next 30 years

From Basement to

The Bridges

Arizona Public Media (AZPM) is developing a transformative media facility located in the UA Tech Park at The Bridges. Beyond being a broadcast and media production facility, it will be a hub for public debates, presentations, live performances, tours and more. Designed as a public square, it will provide diverse opportunities for community collaboration with a studio available for rent and radio/podcast studios open for viewing. The conference center with rooftop deck, which offers breathtaking skyline views, will be open to the public for community meetings, presentations, and events.

Pink Out the Park

The Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Greater Tucson annual Pink Out the Park walk was held at The UA Tech Park for the second year. Over 1,200 community members gathered to celebrate survivors, honor loved ones, and fund research. Participants young and old strolled a 1.2 mile walk through the park and enjoyed a pancake breakfast!

Arizona Office of Economic Opportunity

We were thrilled to host the Arizona Office of Economic Opportunity (OEO) for a visit at the UA Tech Park! OEO exists to consolidate and improve analytic capacity for the state with the goal of tracking Arizona's key economic indicators and developing workforce strategy. It was great to connect with the dedicated OEO staff and look forward to collaboration, innovation, and positive transformation!

STEM Goes Red

Nearly 200 female high school students attended the American Heart Association of Southern Arizona STEM Goes Red event this year at the UA Tech Park. The program draws from the associations’ strong legacy of science, education and discovery to help propel young women into rewarding STEM careers. These future leaders were encouraged to explore these career paths after hearing from inspirational women currently working in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Hispanic Heritage Fiesta

In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, folks from around the UA Tech Park joined Citi, IBM, Tech Parks Arizona and Raytheon for a Site Fiesta! It was a great day celebrating culture by bringing the UA Tech Park community together to enjoy chips and salsa, music and folklorico dancers. Thank you to all the Tech Cats who celebrated with us!

Happy Halloween!

We had a spooktacular evening at The Refinery with a Trunk or Treat event! Our community came out in full force, transforming our parking lot into a Halloween wonderland. From creatively decorated trunks to adorable little goblins and superheroes, the atmosphere was filled with laughter and joy. A huge shoutout to UArizona Online and Distance Education who organized the event and everyone who participated – you made this event a smashing success! Seeing our neighbors come together, sharing treats and smiles, truly embodies the spirit of unity and community.

People of the Park:

Johana Chánes

Meet Johana Chánes, Senior Service Manager at Citi. Johana is a proud first generation Mexican American and wants to show the world the beauty that the Hispanic culture provides. As a new mom, she strives to make sure her son knows his roots - a rich history of food, music and art that people around the world enjoy every day. Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month is just one small way to embrace such a beautiful culture.
