The University of Arizona 2024 Annual Report highlights a year of bold discovery, collaboration, and impact. Raytheon Grows Arizona Contract by $2.1 Billion 

Raytheon, one of the largest employers at the UA Tech Park, has secured a significant $2.13 billion contract modification to continue its work on advanced defense technologies. This expanded contract, which is nearly three times the size of a similar agreement awarded in 2020, extends through 2029. It highlights both Raytheon’s sustained leadership in national defense innovation and Southern Arizona’s growing reputation as a hub for aerospace and defense excellence.

Principal Barger Retires

Principal Dennis Barger, who has played a pivotal role in launching the Vail School District’s first charter school, retires after nearly 20 years of dedicated service. In response to a growing need for flexible, future-ready learning, Vail High School opened its doors in the heart of the UA Tech Park—placing students inside a real-world innovation ecosystem. As the school’s first high school teacher and longtime principal, Barger guided its evolution into Vail Academy and High School, the first K–12 school built on a U.S. research park. His leadership leaves a legacy of innovation, academic excellence, and community impact that will shape future generations.

Eco-Friendly Spray Cork Launches at Tech Park 

Isolcork, a startup from Chile, has successfully piloted its eco-friendly Spray Cork at the UA Tech Park as part of the University of Arizona Center for Innovation’s (UACI) Soft Landing Program. The sustainable cork coating was applied to the iconic red door of Building 9030, offering protection and durability for stucco surfaces against Arizona’s extreme weather conditions. This collaboration showcases the versatility of eco-friendly technologies in real-world applications

Economic Development Week  

Tech Parks Arizona joined national organizations celebrating Economic Development Week, a time to spotlight the power of innovation, collaboration, and community-driven growth. Through university-based economic development, and a strong relationship to the University of Arizona’s world-class talent, research, and innovation to drive real-world economic outcomes—creating jobs, attracting investment, and accelerating technology. At the local level, Pima County also issued a proclamation recognizing May 11-17 as Economic Development Week, reaffirming Arizona’s vital role in economic development.
