Tech Parks Arizona Received Recognition during Arizona-Mexico’s Bi-national Conference
Tech Parks Arizona received special recognition during a bi-national conference highlighting bi-national innovation, entrepreneurship and competitiveness between the state of Arizona and Sonora.
Arizona Governor Doug Ducey and Sonora Governor Claudia Pavlovich presented the award to Tech Parks Arizona during the Arizona Mexico Commission 2018 Summit held in Tucson on June 14 and 15.
Tech Parks Arizona received the Paul J. Fannin Award. This award is the highest honor bestowed by the Arizona-Mexico Commission. It’s given to an Arizona company or organization that has demonstrated acts of goodwill and support for the development of the Arizona-Mexico relationship. Tech Parks Arizona received the award for its persistence in advancing economic development within the Arizona-Sonora Mega-Region.
Tech Parks Arizona is a strong advocate for trade and business with Mexico and the Arizona-Sonora Region. Previously, as the UA Office of Economic Development (UAOED), it partnered with other universities in Arizona and Sonora in developing the concept of Arizona and Sonora as a binational region within the North American Free Trade Area (NAFTA). The office conducted a series of studies documenting the interconnectivity and interdependence of the Arizona and Sonora economies in a number of key economic sectors. The Office developed the original Arizona-Sonora Regional Economic Indicators which are produced by the Office Economic and Business Research in the Eller College of management at the University of Arizona.
Another cross-border collaborative initiative of Tech Parks Arizona is the Global Advantage Program which seeks to recruit high-tech fast growth business from around the world into the region by offering them a bi-national advantage. Global Advantage leverages the benefits and assets of the Arizona-Sonora region by providing access to the technology development and commercialization expertise of the University of Arizona and the integrated manufacturing support services of Sonora.
Global Advantage’s unique value proposition not only leverages the strengths of both states as a region by showcasing their combined technology and manufacturing capabilities, but also provides solutions for companies seeking market entry into North America with a competitive venue in which to develop their ideas, produce their goods, and also benefit from the logistical advantages of the region. The globally competitive business environment offers lower-cost NAFTA based manufacturing, established freight and distribution channels to expand market reach, governmental incentives, and increased productivity with a ready and talented workforce as well as proximity to major markets like California and Texas.
Tech Parks Arizona will continue to be a major partner in future initiatives including operationalizing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed during the Summit which outlines the region’s commitment to developing a technology-based economy in Arizona and Sonora. The Arizona Commerce Authority stated that the MOU was one of the crowning achievements of the Summit, a historic agreement that will strengthen collaboration and the flow of commerce centered on technology and innovation in the Arizona-Sonora region.
