Student Entrepreneurs Show Their Stuff Tomorrow at Perkins Coie Innovative Minds Demo Day

The media is invited to attend the Perkins Coie Innovative Minds Demo Day tomorrow, May 3, at the University of Arizona Main Library. The Arizona Center for Innovation launched the Innovative Minds Challenge with the University of Arizona (UA) in partnership Perkins Coie LLC and InnovateUA to link UA students with business savvy mentors and help fund innovation. With this support, past Challenge participants have gone on to commercialize their ideas, adding value to the Tucson economy. 

The Challenge culminates tomorrow, May 3, with UA student teams demonstrating their innovative ideas during the 2016 Perkins Coie Innovative Minds Demo Day at the University of Arizona Main Library.

What: University of Arizona student teams present their innovative ideas and their market applications.  Student teams compete for three cash prizes sponsored by Perkins Coie and business development services including one-on-one business mentoring and world-class office space through the Arizona Center for Innovation.

When: Tuesday, May 3, 2016. Event begins at 5:30 pm. Pitch presentations begin at 5:45 pm.

Where: University of Arizona Main Library, Room A313 Corner of Cherry and Fourth Street

Who: The 10 student team finalists:

  • Drone Flight Area Control is a task-based drone management system, the flagship product for Enterprise Drone Solutions, with wide applications in agriculture, inspection and other fields.
  • Connected Communities matches the right volunteer with the right nonprofit organization and motivates volunteers to serve their community.
  • Bailiwic is a cloud based CRM & analytics platform that enables nonprofits to establish better connections with donors & go beyond their fundraising goals.
  • Bridge is an online platform that connects and builds trust between the police and the community.
  • Worksphere improves productivity, communication and accountability, while reducing costs, through WorkSphere's secure and user-friendly mobile management solutions.
  • Defiiant Technologies is introducing a 3D social media experience through a wearable Virtual Reality (VR) camera and mobile VR app.
  • Illumination Design Group develops freeform lighting solutions to optimize the preservation and presentation of high-value artwork in museums, galleries, and private collections.
  • Indigenous Intellectual Sovereignty Hub (IISH) combines entertainment, journalism and education all in one website providing a repository for Native-created, shareable content pertaining to Native American issues and interests. 
  • BioBus is an afterschool program for teenage minority females (ages 12-18) to go on cross country trips learning about natural resources.
  • Roffer provides consumers with real time offers based on their location and interest.

 

Arizona Center for Innovation (AzCI) fosters technology startups, emerging, and mature companies in the development of their ideas, inventions, and next evolution of product.  AzCI provides facilities including office, wet and dry lab space and a structured business development program called Mentored Launch which includes a program of workshops, seminars and networking opportunities.  The companies also receive individual coaching from mentors experienced in technology innovation, product development and business management. AzCI is located at the UA Tech Park and is a component of Tech Parks Arizona which is part of Tech Launch Arizona, a University of Arizona office of integrated teams creating an ecosystem of invention and commercialization.

Innovate UA is a program to foster a student-led culture of innovation and entrepreneurship across the entire campus at the University of Arizona. Using a "student leadership" model, Innovate UA works to grow an authentic and lasting campus-wide culture of innovation and entrepreneurship. The Innovate UA leadership team of directors, organizers and volunteers is made up of students drawn from all corners of campus and ensures that the work of Innovate UA remains relevant to the student body.
