The University of Arizona has announced the appointment of Elizabeth R. "Betsy" Cantwell as the Senior Vice President for Research and Innovation. Cantwell will spearhead economic development by directing the UA Office of Research, Development and Innovation, which includes Tech Parks Arizona. She will be responsible for expanding the university's capacity for knowledge and discovery; integrating efforts by faculty, students, staff and executive leaders to move inventions and technologies to the marketplace; increasing the UA's connectivity with external collaborators; spearheading industry and public partnerships; and increasing total research funding as the UA pursues its goal of being the premier innovation center in the Southwest.

UA Tech Park is a Top 10 Finalist for International Award
The International Association of Science Parks and Areas of Innovation (IASP) recently announced its finalists for the 2019 Inspiring Solutions Programme. The UA Tech Park is a top ten finalist for its Women of the UA Tech Park campaign, which ran throughout the month of March. The campaign showcased twenty-five women in honor of National Women’s Month and the UA Tech Park’s 25th anniversary.

SARSEF Gains New Solar Go-Kart Program
Tech Parks Arizona developed Racing the Sun, a hands-on STEM program for high school students, eight years ago to promote workforce development. After incubating the program and establishing good momentum, Racing the Sun is transitioning over to SARSEF - Southern Arizona Research, Science, and Engineering Foundation - to grow the program and best serve the region.

Local Startup Gets Support from NSF
Tech Parks Arizona and The University of Arizona Center for Innovation are pleased to announce Emagine Solutions Technology recently completed the national NSF Innovation Corps (I-Corps™) Teams program. After completing a training program in the San Francisco Bay Area, the team went on to complete over 100 interviews with clinicians and ultrasound experts over the course of several weeks before presenting final results to the National Science Foundation (NSF).

Bernadette Franco was recently promoted to Senior Manager, Accounting and Human Resources. Franco has dedicated over fifteen years to strengthening the UA Tech Park in many facets. She manages all accounting transactions, including financials, budgets, rent schedules, reconciling, billing, invoicing and grant compliance.
