Tech Parks Arizona Celebrates 25 Years of Success??

Twenty-five years ago, the University of Arizona (UA) took the bold step of acquiring an industrial park in southeastern Pima County and transforming it into a university research park. At its inception, the UA Tech Park housed two companies with slightly more than 800 employees. Today, it is home to more than 40 high-tech companies and business organizations with 6,000 knowledge workers.

For twenty-five years, the Tech Park has contributed to regional economic development by advancing the University of Arizona’s research mission and technology development. Annually, the UA Tech Park and its tenants contribute nearly $2 billion to the local economy and is one of the region’s largest employment centers.

This year, we celebrate 25 years of success at the UA Tech Park. The celebration not only commemorates the past success, but especially focuses on the future. We would like to extend a special thank you to all our sponsors. Our focus throughout this celebration will shine on how collaborative relationships like these further the success of Tech Parks Arizona.

Steward Observatory at the UA Tech Park

The University of Arizona Engineering and Technical Services for the Steward Observatory and the James C. Wyant College of Optical Sciences have moved their research and prototyping operations to the UA Tech Park. The two teams recently merged research groups and concentrated their activities, which ultimately led to more production. This new operations site will be their temporary location during the main campus building renovations.

Tucson Tech Field Grows by 90%

KGUN9 recently visited the UA Tech Park and discussed how a new CBRE report highlights the growth of technology and talent in Tucson. This growth is impacting the local community and motivating University of Arizona students to stay in the area upon graduation.

UA's Business Incubator Widens Reach

The University of Arizona’s 16-year-old technology business incubator has a new name and new leadership as it plans to expand its reach. The retooled UA Center for Innovation is extending its regional impact with planned collaborative “outpost” operations in Oro Valley, Sahuarita and Vail — and even looking beyond Pima County to serve the Yuma and Sierra Vista areas.

Sit Back and Relax - National Relaxation Day

On August 15, many employees who work for companies at the UA Tech Park sat back, relaxed and enjoyed free massages to celebrate National Relaxation Day. This is one of the many ways in which Tech Parks Arizona gives back and celebrates those who work at the UA Tech Park.

People of the Park

Tech Parks Arizona is pleased to announce that Logan Wein has been hired as a marketing and communications specialist. In this role, he is responsible for assisting the director of communications with all marketing and communications efforts, including brand development, media outreach, social media management and more. Wein graduated from Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania in May, earning a bachelor’s degree in communication/journalism with a concentration in public relations and a business minor.
