Nanomoneo Establishes Biotech Operation in Tucson, Arizona

After a competitive, multi-state process, Nanomoneo, a biotechnology instrument company, selected the University of Arizona Center for Innovation located at the UA Tech Park for its new applied research operation. The newly formed, venture capital-backed company is working on solutions that allow consumers to “see” things that are not normally visible with the naked eye. The company plans to hire 14 people over the next five years, including research scientists, engineers and research support.

 

UACI Sponsored Launch Fueled by BIOSA

We are pleased to announce the UACI Sponsored Launch Fueled by BIOSA competition. One bioscience technology company will receive a sponsored year admission into the UACI incubation program through the generous sponsorship of BIOSA, the Bioindustry Organization of Southern Arizona. Included with entrance into the program, the startup will also be awarded a cash prize of $5,000. UACI at Oro Valley Update

Monsoon season may be here, but the rain has not stopped us from building our bioscience incubator in the town of Oro Valley. Construction is on schedule for the University of Arizona Center for Innovation at Oro Valley. This soon-to-be thriving home for biotech startups, including the winner of the UACI Sponsored Launch Fueled by BIOSA, is set to open late Fall 2020.

 

New Startup - Techletics

Techletics, a mobile health technology company, is new to UACI. The founding members of Techletics are: Nadav Gerson (CEO), Jan Halozan (CTO), Mike Durham (CSO) and Nate McFall (CMO). Techletics is developing a patent-pending mobile health application, MyPostureLife™, that utilizes the embedded sensors of a smartphone to track and improve posture with no other additional device.  

 

American-Made Solar Challenge is Ready for Round 4

Calling all solar innovators! Round 4 of the American-Made Solar Prize Challenge is accepting Ready! Applications which are due on October 8. The American-Made Solar Prize is a $3 million prize competition designed to energize U.S. solar manufacturing through a series of contests and the development of a diverse and powerful support network that leverages national laboratories, energy incubators and other resources across the country. 

 

Subject Matter Expert on Rising Stars Podcast

The Rising Stars podcast featured a UACI subject matter expert, Devon Underwood. In this episode, Underwood discusses how to be a good manager as a young professional, offers advice for anyone that was furloughed or laid off due to COVID-19 and highlights the future of talent and workforce development in Tucson.

 

Tipping Point Radio Program

Eric Smith guest hosted Zach Yentzer’s program The Tipping Point on 1030AM The Voice. The program covered why the new biotech company Nanomoneo chose to locate in Tucson. The startup praised Tucson’s technical infrastructure to support startups, reasonable regulatory environment and socially stable climate. Other discussion revolved around workforce pivots with Underwood. The segment concluded with its regular financial Friday piece.

 

Arizona Tech Council Winners Announced

The Arizona Technology Council and the Arizona Commerce Authority announced finalists for the 2020 Governor’s Celebration of Innovation Awards. Congrats to all the finalists, especially our transformational leaders Dr. Betsy Cantwell and Joann MacMaster as well as UACI startup graduates Codelucida, Inc, FreeFall, Lunawave and innovator tech giant located at the UA Tech Park, IBM Tucson.

 

UACI Executive Director Receives InBIA Certification

Congratulations to UACI Executive Director Eric Smith for receiving his International Business Innovation Association (InBIA) Entrepreneurship Center Management certification. We're thrilled to see his professional development progress and bring global best practices in business incubation back to Tucson’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.

 

New Startup Tucson Ecosystem Guide

UACI is featured in Startup Tucson's Ecosystem Guide, a user-friendly guide to the organizations and groups that support the growth of small businesses and startups in Tucson, Arizona. The guide is a collaborative project between Startup Tucson and the Southern Arizona Leadership Council.

 

People of the Park: Anita Bell


Anita Bell is passionate about helping entrepreneurs transform their ideas into successful companies. As a key member of UACI, her responsibilities include strategic planning, managing daily operations, client services, developing programs, mentoring companies, fundraising and client recruitment. Anita is at the core of the UACI program's efforts. She ensures startups successfully progress through the program and coordinates all the people resources at the core of the UACI service. Anita has deep roots in the program and has been involved in all areas of the UACI operation since 2003.

American Made Challenge Webinars

The University of Arizona Center for Innovation is hosting a three-part workshop that will encourage team building, identify problems and find solutions. The workshops will consist of short presentations followed by small group discussions. Information about the American-Made Solar Prize Challenge Round 4 will also be shared with participants. Each workshop will take place on September 22, 23 and 24 at 11 AM PDT.

Startup Weekend

The University of Arizona Center for Innovation is a launch partner for Arizona’s first-ever, statewide online Startup Weekend, hosted by Techstars. The event begins Friday, October 23, and will go on through Sunday, October 25. Join entrepreneurs from around the state as they #StartupInAZ at this unique Arizona event. Register today!
