UACI is a Department of Energy Power Connector

The University of Arizona Center for Innovation was named one of just six organizations in the country selected to help advance solar-energy technologies as part of the U.S. Department of Energy’s $3 million American-Made Solar Prize. The campaign is designed to incentivize entrepreneurs to innovate solar power and help boost American leadership in the energy marketplace.  

 

International Startup Graduates from Incubator and Launches into the U.S.

Mexico-based startup company proAutomation graduated from UACI’s incubation program and international soft-landing program. UACI and Visit Tucson worked with the organization’s leadership to assist in successfully taking their company global using Tucson, Arizona as their strategic market entry point. After graduating from UACI, proAutomation moved to an accelerator in Phoenix to continue their startup journey and capitalize on new business opportunities. This foreign direct investment into Arizona is a win for the state’s economy.  

 

Desert Pearl Mushroom Pivots Through Pandemic 

Desert Pearl Mushroom, a University of Arizona alumni founded startup housed at UACI has found creative ways to pivot their business through the pandemic. Recently highlighted in University of Arizona News, the company showcases how they retooled and are staying successful by expanding operations and leaning on UACI for support. 


 

AZ Science Friday Features Sonoran Analytics

Linda Powers, a researcher at the University of Arizona and founder of Sonoran Analytics, a startup housed at UACI, was featured on an Arizona Science Friday NPR episode. Powers shares insight and showcases how technology is utilized to uncover the mysteries of COVID-19.

 

Sponsored Launch Fueled by Town of Sahuarita and Freeport-McMoRan 

The University of Arizona Center for Innovation (UACI) is collaborating with the Town of Sahuarita and Freeport-McMoRan to sponsor six months at the incubator for startup teams that are committed to solving a significant business or social challenge. National Science Foundation Selects Tucson-based Startup Clear Core for Grant

Clear Core, a Tucson-based data FinTech firm was selected by the National Science Foundation to participate in its National Innovation-Corps Program and will receive a grant to aid in refining product-market fit. The firm’s new and novel approach to data cleaning and augmentation allows organizations to correct problems with data before it is used in decision making.

 

Precision Breeding for the Modern Farm  

UACI teamed up with Matt Lingard, Arizona Corn Product Development Center Lead of Bayer Crop Science, on a webinar where he explained why there is an increased need for COVID-19 testing.

 

UACI Director Appointed to the JCC Board 

Eric Smith Executive Director of the University of Arizona Center for Innovation was recently appointed a seat on the Tucson Jewish Community Center’s Board of Directors. Eric brings his passion and creativity to the board. He is part of a dynamic team that will contribute to the evolution of the organization. The Tucson Jewish Community Center is committed to the enrichment and cultivation of Jewish culture and its presence as well as creating a space for wellness and community. Congratulations, Eric!
