Winners Announced for the UACI Sponsored Launch Fueled by the Town of Sahuarita and Freeport McMoRan Program

The University of Arizona Center for Innovation (UACI) is pleased to announce the winning startups of the UACI Sponsored Launch Fueled by the Town of Sahuarita and Freeport McMoRan competition. Tech Launch Arizona startups Auxilium Technology Group LLC and Desertdx, LLC as well as local startup Sylvan Source will receive fully sponsored admission into the UACI incubation program thanks to the generous financial support of Freeport McMoRan and the Town of Sahuarita. The winning startups were selected because they were working on solutions for real-world problems and for their desire to make a significant difference in the local and global communities through innovation. The winning teams begun their six-month residency at UACI starting August 3.

 

UACI Expands with Four Subject Matter Experts

UACI has expanded their team to include four subject matter experts (SME) that will help serve the increasing number of startups in the incubator. These subject matter experts will assist the UACI startups in taking action toward four critical functional aspects of their ventures through a regular cadence of interaction.

 

New UACI Startup Working to Fight Against COVID-19

A Tucson startup company is working on vaccine technology that could aid in the fight against COVID-19. Reparvi, the winning startup of the UACI Sponsored Launch Fueled by Perkins Coie LLP, was highlighted last week in a news article published in the Arizona Daily Star.


 

The Impact of University Research and Innovation

Dr. Betsy Cantwell, Senior Vice President for Research and Innovation at UArizona, headlined the recent Arizona Tech Council breakfast. Dr. Cantwell overviewed the institution's approach to continuing its research mission in light of the stay-at-home order and the opportunities for high-impact innovation during the pandemic. She also explained how COVID-19 will shift the research model going forward.

 

GIST Business Incubation Partner

Global Innovation through Science and Technology (GIST) spotlighted us in a recent article. The U.S. Department of State partnered with UACI to support four international small businesses through the GIST Initiative pilot program based on our capacity to support science and technology based businesses, facilitate university connection and integrate the international CEOs into a strong and vibrant community of entrepreneurs and innovators.

 

UACI at Oro Valley

The University of Arizona Center for Innovation at Oro Valley is taking shape. Watching the construction advance in Oro Valley is building the UACI team's excitement for all the progress bioscience startups will make within these walls.

 

Tipping Point Take Over

On July 30, UACI executive director Eric Smith guest-hosted Zach Yentzer's Tipping Point radio program on AM 1030 KVOI The Voice. Smith spent the hour interviewing UACI startup founders on the mission of their businesses and how they've pivoted during this time. Learn How to Build Your Team

Eric Smith, executive director of UACI, shared his insight on starting a company and how to create a team to support it. Entrepreneurs can watch this segment on team formation.

 

Arizona TechCast features UACI Startup NANOPEC

Mario Blanco, Ph.D., President of the UACI startup NANOPEC, was featured on Arizona Tech Council's podcast, AZ Tech Cast. AZ Tech Cast is a podcast dedicated to discovering and sharing the latest and greatest innovations and technology in Arizona. Listen to the episode to hear the entrepreneurial success story of NANOPEC and three other successful Arizona tech companies. 

 

2020 Arizona Innovation Fall Challenge

The Arizona Innovation Challenge awards up to 10 of Arizona’s most promising startups with $150,000 in non-dilutive grant capital. Awardees will also be enrolled in the ACA’s mentor-led accelerator; Venture Ready. Applications are open until August 28, 2020.

GVACC Webinar with UACI Executive Director

On August 13, if you are an entrepreneur considering a startup or you recently started a business, you won't want to miss this time with Eric Smith, UACI executive director. Smith will be discussing the Startup Project at the Tech Park during a webinar hosted by the Greater Vail Area Chamber of Commerce.

American Made Solar Prize Challenge Speaker Series

The University of Arizona Center for Innovation and ADL Ventures will be hosting Frank Yang, partner at ADL Ventures and the founder/CEO of Liatris, an advanced insulation materials startup. This webinar will focus on the general climate of the solar industry in the United States and Yang's experience. Information about the American Made Solar Prize Challenge Round 4 will also be shared with participants.
