The University of Arizona Center for Innovation Breaks Ground in Oro Valley

The University of Arizona (UA) Center for Innovation in collaboration with Oro Valley Innovation Labs is ready to break ground and start building a biotech-focused incubator for startup companies in Oro Valley. The UA Center for Innovation at Oro Valley will provide space and commercialization programs for nascent life science businesses to conduct research and product development. It will offer world-class laboratories, shared equipment and a customized startup curriculum led by the UA Center for Innovation, Arizona's longest running incubator. This new facility will fill a gap in the entrepreneurial ecosystem directly related to supporting scientific research discoveries and translating them into marketable technologies. BizLaunch Demo Day A Success

After eight weeks of business boot camp and preparation taught by the University of Arizona (UA) Center for Innovation, the participating local Sahuarita startups presented their business pitches to the public. The program, BizLaunch, was organized by the Town of Sahuarita Economic Development and funded by Freeport MacMoRan in collaboration with the UA Center for Innovation.

Oro Valley Community Leaders of the Year

Ray Woosley, PhD, AzCERT; Vice Chair Oro Valley Innovation Labs, and Paul August, PhD, Vice President of Biology, Icagen, Inc.; Chair, Oro Valley Innovation Labs, were recently named Community Leaders of the Year by the Greater Oro Valley Chamber of Commerce for their hard work with the Oro Valley Innovation Labs.

 

People of the Park

Tech Parks Arizona is pleased to announce the expansion of the UA Center for Innovation team by adding an additional team member. Eric Smith is the new executive director. He brings almost a decade's worth of technology commercialization experience and a passion for entrepreneurship. Smith comes to the UA Center for Innovation after serving as the commercialization network manager for Tech Launch Arizona, the UA's office responsible for moving UA research and technological innovation into the marketplace.
