National Academy of Inventors 

Dr. Roger Angel, Regents' Professor at the University of Arizona, has been named as a Fellow of the prestigious National Academy of Inventors (NAI) for his many contributions, from telescope mirror design to his ideas around sustainable energy. The announcement reports that 155 academic inventors from across the nation were inducted as fellows.

Tech Parks Arizona Calls on Developers to Submit Proposals for Second Park

The ball is rolling to create a second Park in Tucson, southwest of 36th Street and Kino Parkway. Developers have been invited to propose how they would assist in developing the first third of the park called the technology precinct. The UA Tech Park at the Bridges will serve as a hub for University of Arizona technology, innovation, and commercialization activities as well as a home for Tech Launch Arizona.

SBIR / STTR Summit

AZCI hosted a two-day NAVSEA STTR and SBIR Summit in partnership with the US Navy. Participants attended a live-streamed informational meeting and met one-on-one with a Navy SBIR program manager and other domain experts. This summit provided insight on how to access funding for small technology businesses through the NAVSEA programs as well as general startup business support.

Solar Zone

Tucson Electric Power and Eon hosted a tour of the Solar Zone at the UA Tech Park as part of the Southwest Clean Power Summit which was hosted in Tucson December 4-5. The conference featured experts from throughout the Southwest to examine how emerging industry forces continue to transform the power landscape.

BESST Workshop

Tech Parks Arizona executed another successful Building Experiential Skilled Student Talent (BESST) workshop. The interactive career readiness workshops for high schoolers. Students learned project management and coordination from IBM representatives. They learned valuable insights that they can carry into their future workplace.

Common Ground Award

The Metropolitan Pima Alliance presented the Annual Common Ground Awards to honor projects and programs that overcame great obstacles through atypical collaborations. Tech Parks Arizona's Global Advantage program was one of the top 10 winners receiving an award.  Global Advantage won the Common Ground Award in the category of Economic Development.

Tech Park Interns

The Winter 2017 cohort of interns at Tech Parks Arizona recently completed their program. They gained real-world experience as part of the 100% engagement initiative at the University of Arizona to build upon their personal and professional skills. Students came from the Colleges of Engineering and Social and Behavioral Sciences, as well as the Eller College of Management.

Angel Tree

Tech Parks Arizona helped to make a difference in the neighboring community by partnering with Empire High School to adopt a family this season. The Tech Parks Arizona team collected presents and gift cards for a family from the school's angel tree.

Tech Parks Arizona is part of Tech Launch Arizona, an office of integrated teams creating an ecosystem of invention and commercialization throughout Arizona and beyond. TLA generates social and economic impact through bringing the inventions of the University of Arizona from the lab to the marketplace.
