Business Facilities released their most recent issue, the 16th Annual Rankings Report which configures Business Facilities' rankings, categories and criteria to measure the state with the most business location appeal. Arizona is moving up the ladder based on several factors. Tucson has been repeatedly reported as a city with promise when it comes to recovering after the pandemic. With its entrepreneurial culture of thriving development, it only makes sense why the city of Tucson has made Business Facilities’ top ranked “Startup Ecosystems” list. Tech Parks Arizona is also featured in this issue with an article showing the strategic advantage of locating at a University of Arizona Tech Park. This premier research park provides numerous amenities, strategic location, ample space and endless access to a talent pipeline of intelligence and research expertise found at the University of Arizona.

 

Nanomoneo Establishes Biotech Operation in Tucson

After a competitive, multi-state process, Nanomoneo, a biotechnology instrument company, selected the University of Arizona Center for Innovation located at the UA Tech Park for its new applied research operation. The newly formed, venture capital-backed company is working on solutions that allow consumers to “see” things that are not normally visible with the naked eye. The company plans to hire 14 people over the next five years, including research scientists, engineers and research support. 

 

Business View Magazine Highlights the Park

Business View Magazine, a monthly digital magazine that provides information on key business sectors and regions, recently highlighted Tucson, Arizona. This article showcases Tucson’s growing entrepreneurial ecosystem. Tech Parks Arizona was listed as an important piece that attracts and contributes to Tucson’s entrepreneurial appeal.

 

Business Incubation Partner Profile

International small businesses are traveling directly to Tucson, Arizona for their U.S. market entry point. This article provides background on how the U.S. State Department designated the UA Center for Innovation as a preferred soft-landing spot for international small companies through the Global Innovation through Science and Technology (GIST) program. Tucson to Recover Quickly from Pandemic

The Site Selector’s Guild named Tucson as one of the best markets positioned to recover quickly from the pandemic and will most likely see “new locations or expansion projects in the next year”. The UA Tech Park stands ready to support these businesses.

 

UA Tech Park at The Bridges

Tech Parks Arizona hasn’t missed a beat in developing this project as planned. Construction at the UA Tech Park at The Bridges is well underway. The Boyer Company is developing the first building, The Refinery. The Refinery is the first in a series of buildings planned, using quality-minded local contractor CORE Construction and Swaim Associates Architects.

 

UArizona Startup Numbers Flourish

UArizona reported a record number of startups for the 2020 fiscal year. With 19 new companies added to its roster last fiscal year, this brings the total number of startups created through the work of Tech Launch Arizona – the office that commercializes inventions stemming from UArizona innovation – to over 100 since the office began operating in late 2012.

 

Startup Weekend

The University of Arizona Center for Innovation is a launch partner for Arizona’s first-ever, statewide online Startup Weekend, hosted by Techstars. The event begins Friday, September 25, and will go on through Sunday, September 27. Join entrepreneurs from around the state as they #StartupInAZ at this unique Arizona event. Registration ends September 20.

 

UArizona's Betsy Cantwell joins CASIS Board of Directors

Congratulations to Dr. Betsy Cantwell, Senior Vice President for Research and Innovation at UArizona, for her appointment to The Center for the Advancement of Science in Space (CASIS) Board of Directors. CASIS manages the International Space Station (ISS) U.S. National Laboratory pursuant to a Cooperative Agreement with NASA.
