Interview with UA Tech Park Leader

Carol Stewart, Vice President of Tech Parks Arizona, sat down in Amsterdam for an interview with Pulse. Magazine, a publication produced by Novitech Campus, a European and global hotspot for high tech and health companies. The theme for the first edition of the publication is "Vibe of The Future", and they sought out changemakers, inspiring leaders and global innovators to feature. As a global changemaker with experience shaping tech and research parks across the globe, Carol Stewart engaged in a conversation around her reach as an international leader, finding her place at Tech Parks Arizona, her career development, how Tech Parks Arizona is bringing people back to the workplace and how startup incubators are the cornerstone of innovation hubs.

 

UA Center for Innovation Welcomes International Fellows

Erida Curraj and Helga Sallaku made the 30-hour journey from Albania to Tucson to join the University of Arizona Center for Innovation (UACI) team for a six-month exchange program through the Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE) in partnership through the Albanian-American Development Foundation. CIEE is a non-profit organization promoting mutual international education and exchange for both the hosts and exchange fellows.

 
 
 

2022 Copper Cactus Awardees

Congratulations to all the winners of the Tucson Metro Chamber 2022 Copper Cactus Awards! It was an honor to sponsor the Tech Parks Arizona Startup of the Year Award, won by Sonoran Stitch Factory. Another round of applause for the UA Center for Innovation who brought home the Nextrio Copper Cactus for Small Business Innovation.

 
 

2022 Leaders of the Year

Tech Parks Arizona Leader, Carol Stewart, was named a Technology Leader of the Year in the awards presented by Arizona Capitol Times. The annual celebration honors Leaders of the Year from various industries who have contributed to the growth of Arizona. Congratulations, Carol!

 

UArizona High Impact Leadership Training

A few of Tech Parks Arizona's directors participated in the High Impact Leadership course through the University of Arizona, Eller College of Management Executive Education. Anita Bell, Craig Kleine and Jessa Turner, learned from industry experts how to lead through the challenges businesses face today via collaborative learning activities, bringing this value back to their organizations.

 
 

IASP Seville, Spain

The 39th International Association of Science Parks and Areas of Innovation (IASP) World Conference is being hosted in Seville, Spain right now, September 27-30, 2022. Tech Parks Arizona representatives are participating and sharing ideas internationally. Tech Parks' Executive Vice President and CFO, Ken Marcus, is part of a panel discussing global sustainability approaches where he will present on his paper, "Green is Not Just the Color of Money". And the Sponsored Launch Program from the UA Center for Innovation is one of ten international finalists for the Inspiring Solutions awards.

 

National Hispanic Heritage Month UA Tech Park Fiesta

Tech Parks Arizona is proud to recognize and celebrate the many contributions, diverse cultures, and extensive histories of the American Latino community. In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, Citi, IBM, Raytheon and Tech Parks Arizona threw a Park Fiesta bringing together employees from companies across the park. The festivities included a salsa competition, a piñata contest, folklorico dance performances and a special Latino lunch from Café Zona.

Eric Gaines

Meet Eric Gaines, IBM DS8000 - Reliability Availability Scalability (RAS) Development Software Engineer at IBM. Eric works in an agile collaborative environment to understand stakeholder requirements. As a member of the RAS team, Eric designs, codes and tests innovative component-level software solutions. His primary responsibilities include data collection, remote support, hardware management, console infrastructure and power. When he's not working, Eric likes to work out, watch sports and collect shoes.

Understands how duties relate/integrate with others in the team/unit. Exchanges moderately complex information with others. Basic knowledge of the organization and its policies required. Applies experience and simple judgement to make decisions within defined options or standard protocols - follows through on issues. Able to evaluate and select the correct solution in order to complete the task at hand.
