UArizona Applied Research Corporation Grand Opening Celebration Held in The Refinery at the UA Tech Park at The Bridges

The University of Arizona Applied Research Corporation (UA-ARC) celebrated the grand opening of their new space at The Refinery in the UA Tech Park at The Bridges. The celebration also marked the organization's four-year anniversary. UA-ARC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit affiliated organization of the University of Arizona established to leverage UArizona's longstanding research strengths and public land-grant university mission. In this space UA-ARC is delivering solutions to national security challenges with the opportunity to expand their activities and extend UArizona's focus on translating research and discovery into impact through private-public partnerships serving the state of Arizona, the nation and the world. The Refinery is a collaboration between The Boyer Company and Tech Parks Arizona, providing purpose-built environments where both university and industry organizations reside and interact. This platform provides the perfect place for businesses and government organizations seeking to collaborate with the University of Arizona.

 

University Economic Development Association Board Appointment

Tech Parks Arizona Leader, Carol Stewart, has been appointed to the University Economic Development Association (UEDA) Board of Directors where she will volunteer serving a two-year term starting in January 2023. UEDA is an international membership association focused on advancing the economic prosperity of regions through engagement with higher education. With a focus on areas like talent, innovation and place, UEDA provides thought leadership in higher education economic engagement.

 
 

UA Tech Park Goes Pink

Over 1,000 community members from around Tucson gathered to recognize the courage of breast cancer survivors as well as honor the memories of friends and loved ones at the UA Tech Park for Pink Out the Park. The walk was organized by the American Cancer Society and presented by TMC Health to raise money and awareness for breast cancer. KGUN 9 filmed a segment for their broadcast at the event. The event raised over $100,000 from sponsors and $162,000 has been raised so far in 2022.

 
 
 

Tech Parks Arizona - Member of the Year by Arizona Tech Council

Tech Parks Arizona was recognized as the Southern Arizona Member Organization of the Year by the Arizona Technology Council (AZTC) for its support and alignment with AZTC's vision statement: The AZTC is the driving force behind making Arizona the fastest growing technology hub in the nation; connecting and empowering Arizona's technology community. Tech Parks Arizona received the award for for making a significant contribution to the Arizona Technology Council, helping drive over all growth and mission impact. Congratulations to UA Center for Innovation & Tech Launch Arizona startup CarbeniumTec for being named Startup of the Year by AZTC.

 
 

Supporting Southern AZ Law Enforcement

Tech Parks Arizona was honored to support the UArizona Police Department at the UA Tech Park flagship location during this year's Annual Poker Run organized by the Southern Arizona Law Enforcement Foundation (SALEF). Community members rode across Tucson to stops including the flagship UA Tech Park which raised money to support the law enforcement agencies of Southern Arizona. SALEF is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization established to raise public awareness and money to support the needs of our Tucson area law enforcement agencies. In a separate donation, Tech Parks Arizona gave SALEF $1,000 to support the foundation and all they do for the community.

 

Public Relations IMPACT Awards

Team members gathered at the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), Southern Arizona Chapter IMPACT Awards to celebrate the hard work and achievements of the public relations, marketing, communications and advertising community. We received two awards of excellence, one for the UA Tech Park FDI Brochure developed in partnership with the UArizona Office of Research, Innovation and Impact and one for the UArizona Center for Innovation (UACI) video "An Entrepreneur's Journey" made alongside the Caliber Group. In addition, the Grand Opening Celebration for the UACI outpost at Biosphere 2 received a Certificate of Excellence.

 

San Marcos, TX Welcomed for a Visit

The Tech Parks Arizona team welcomed a group of buisness and community leaders from San Marcos, Texas. The visit to Tucson was organized by the San Marcos Area Chamber of Commerce as part of their 2022 InterCity Visit tour to learn from similar sized cities to understand best practices that can be applied to advance their community. During the tour, the group explored the UA Tech Park flagship location, the UA Center for Innovation and the Solar Zone.

 

STEM Goes Red at The UA Tech Park

It was an honor to host the STEM Goes Red event organized by the American Heart Association. The park was full of students, mentors and professionals. The day-long event inspired high school girls to explore STEM and take charge of their health and well-being. The program draws from the association's strong legacy of science, education and discover to help propel young women into rewarding STEM careers.

Meet Shae Sonderer, Project Engineer at Jacobs and has worked at the UA Tech Park for two and a half years. She is responsible for plant operational efficiency and reliability and track a myriad of projects for improvements including repairs to the site utilities.
