Tech Parks Arizona creates interactive ground, which generates, attracts and supports technology companies and talent in alignment with the goals of the University of Arizona.

Tucson Local Media and Inside Tucson Business hosted its sixth-annual Executive Excellence Awards event on November 14 at the Desert Diamond Casino & Hotel. The celebration of local leaders featured 110 nominees in 10 categories. Kenneth Marcus, Director and CFO for Tech Parks Arizona was awarded the Executive of Excellence Award for CFO: Nonprofit Company.  The longtime UA Tech Park CFO was honored for his perseverance and commitment to the organization. Marcus has managed all the financials for the organization for over 16 years, sustaining a positive cash flow while also pursuing investment opportunities and managing the Park as an asset on behalf of the Arizona Board of Regents. Marcus shared his insights as to what makes a great leader during the event. Recently retired Bruce Wright was the event's keynote speaker and also honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Governor's Celebration of Innovation

Congratulations to Dr. Laurence Hurley for taking home the Innovator of the Year Award and representing the University of Arizona exceptionally well. Dr. Hurley received the award the night of the Governor's Celebration of Innovation in which Arizona's entrepreneurs, innovators, and advancers of technology were all commended for their diligence.

TG Companies, a technology R&D company, just moved into the lab at the UA Tech Park as part of the business incubator's rent-a-bench program. TG Companies aims to create a sustainable future for solar energy by recycling broken-down and end-of-life solar panels for reuse in new solar panels

SBIR/STTR Summit

On December 12, the Arizona Center for Innovation is partnering with New Mexico State to broadcast the SBIR/STTR Innovation Summit to local researchers and innovators. The panel will be addressing the NAVY SBIR/STTR program's $350 million in non-dilutive funds available to small businesses.

BESST Students

High school students were introduced to Project Management and Agile Iterative Development by participating in the Tech Parks' program Building Experiential Skilled Student Talent (BESST). The program focuses on career readiness, experiential learning, and soft skills. Industry professionals from IBM, Raytheon, and Arconic have volunteered to teach and better prepare the future workforce of Southern Arizona.

Victor Brett

Victor Brett is a talented University of Arizona student in the College of Theatre, Film, and Television. Interning at Tech Parks Arizona, he has developed a Tech Park "look-back" video featuring older news segments. He is also developing a video to showcase "a day in the life of an entrepreneur" to promote the business incubator, Arizona Center for Innovation. Victor has received a National Hispanic Scholar Award and multiple College of Fine Arts Achievement awards.
