Veterans and their spouses can find out about employment opportunities throughout Southern Arizona at a free career seminar from 3 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14, at Pima Community College Coalition Center, 4355 E. Calle Aurora.

The session will include industry panels on automotive and transportation, cybersecurity and cloud technology and aerospace. Attendees must RSVP to goo.gl/5Qb0LX.

Among the employers taking part in the career seminar are: Raytheon, Tucson Electric Power Company, Southwest Gas and UPS.

The “Next Steps for Vets” event is a partnership of ARIZONA@WORK-Pima County, Pima Community College, Tech Parks Arizona, Airman and Family Readiness Center at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, ARIZONA@WORK-Southeastern Arizona, Tucson Electric Power Company, Nesco Resource and Diamond Ventures.

The event is offered as part of Innovation Frontier Southwest, a consortium of economic development organizations, local government, higher education and workforce development entities working in the border region of southern Arizona and New Mexico. The consortium originally formed in 2007 as Innovation Frontier Arizona through a regional innovation grant called WIRED. Workforce development entities were the leads in each county, and IFA projects focused on talent development, entrepreneurship and regional collaboration infrastructure. IFA has brought $20M in federal workforce training grants to the region.

The Kino Veterans’ Workforce Center, part of Pima County’s Community Services, Employment and Training Department, offers career counseling and job search assistance; help with resumes, interview and phone techniques; skill and aptitude assessments; computer labs and office equipment; behavioral health services and recovery; occupational skills training; adult education, tutoring and study skills; benefits counseling and claims assistance – education, medical care, disability; assistance with housing and other basic needs during transition to employment; and business recruitment and workforce training assistance.

Veterans may also attend regularly scheduled networking and job club events at the Kino Veterans’ Workforce Center, 2801 E. Ajo Way. At the next two sessions – set for Feb. 15 and Feb. 22 from 1 to 3 p.m. -- they can speak directly with employers and hiring managers, learn about career and job opportunities and apply for open positions.
